Meet Charlton Castillo

Charlton was born in Hopkins village 1967 and started elementary school in Hopkins. At the age of nine his mother took him to Chicago where he finished high school and attended college vocational school for diesel mechanics. Charlton returned to Belize at the age of 26 in 1993 and worked in Belize for a while before moving to Silk Grass Village to work as a side man for a mechanic. Charlton finally found his way back home to Hopkins and started working for Jaguar Reef Lodge. His career in tourism with the resort started with cleaning the beach, then he moved on to maintenance and then he found his niche in guiding. In the beginning he did not see too many animals but did see a lot of birds so a fascination and appreciation for birds developed. Charlton bought a bird book and started studying them. When he got the opportunity to drive a bird group (Green Tours) from England for 8 days he took it and ever since then he has never stopped watching and enjoying everything the country of Belize has to offer. Charlton is now well known in the Hopkins area as a professional and sought after inland tour guide specializing in birds and terrestrial wildlife. All the photos on this website were taken by Charlton on his tours.
